When aerospace experts needed synthetic lubricants that maintained their fluid properties at very low temperature yet would not evaporate at high temperatures a new class of products had to be developed.
With 14 years of “space tested” reliability, Pennzane® lubricants are used regularly for bearings, gears and actuators in satellites, space vehicles and space suits. In terrestrial applications Pennzane® fluids are used in vacuum manufacturing of semiconductors, and show promise in magnetic drive applications, where the ever shrinking physical size of drives nears vacuum-like conditions.
Working with more than 10 years of test data Pennzane® develops products that consistently outperform PFPE lubrication in accelerated bearing life tests.
Pennzane® lubricants are ideal where low volatility, wide liquid range, and performance additive solubility have a significant impact on a component’s functionality and life span. Many studies have demonstrated Pennzane® lubricants provide significantly higher wear protection compared to other low volatility lubricants such as perfluoropolyethers. The recently commercialized fluids make Pennzane®-based lubricants even more of a design solution. Now a greater array of applications can take advantage of the low volatility properties that Pennzane® lubricants offer.
Having been selected for use on the NASA CERES AM-1 mission in 1999, Pennzane® products have demonstrated their ability to perform in the toughest environments.
Today, Pennzane® is in use to lubricate mechanisms on the Geostationary Operational Satellites (GEOS), the Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) and the Rossi X-Ray Timing Explorer (RXTE) satellite.
